Mr. Dallas: tout and about

Remembrances of phelgm past (or notes on the weekend):
Dave Navarro is tiny even by diminutive rock star standards. He could fit in a shoebox. ZONTIS
He should be watching out that somebody doesn't try to steal his Lucky Charms. He graced the VIP area for SushiSamba's first "SambaRock" party Friday. Good start for that: crowded but not packed, nubile moths streaming to the flame of Dave, who, the publicist assures us, drank diet Cokes all night.

One dart: SushiSamba needs to turn the lights down at least 40 percent once the diners have gone home. The party vibe was considerably diminished by the bright, changing-hued bug lights that were illuminating everyone's toner.

Found a good place for a mid-evening molt almost by accident on JUAN GUAJARDO
Saturday -- the bar at Pappas steakhouse. "Oh, please!" derides you. But hear moi out. The places buzzes right through the night with the high turnover of carnivorous diners, the piano tinkler is adequate, and the bartenders are serious about their cocktails. Renewed an acquaintance with the martini (Boodles gin, twist). The mixologist enthusiastically conformed to a request for "super cold, shake it silly," best since the golden days of the Lounge at the Inwood.

Speaking of mixology, the beloved IV should peel open its wallet and employ an actual bartender. Charming though the servers are, they seem to be no more familiar with Mr. Boston's guide than with Sanskrit. Note: A "perfect Manhattan" is not the Platonic ideal of a Manhattan, but one made with sweet and dry vermouth.

And while we're on the IV bartending subject: A martini up with a twist is not the same as a lemondrop. Cool spot though.
