To me, hip hop has reached the point in its gestation where artists must have a catch to be noticed, especially now that the style has gone international. Few better examples of this exists than Romy Hoffman, better known as Macromantics.
The frizzy-haired Aussie lass rhymes about philosophical and pop-cultural concerns with fair doses of self-hype and physical emphasis. It's not remarkable at all; her delivery is husky and drab, and her wardrobe - black leotard, black jeans worn below the hip and meat-red high-top sneakers - was borderline comical.
But she (emphasis here ) is from Australia. I'm all for female rappers - I sevevely dig Salt N Pepa and early Queen Latifah - but Macromantics needs no more closeups.
